Best Picture: The LG EC9300 Series

The LG EC9300 Series offers one of the best HDTV pictures for an affordable price. It comes with a modified TV remote that owes its design to the motion clickers other luxury TVs offer. It’s one of the thinnest TVs, and ranges in price from $3,000 to $3,500, with models starting with the 55-inch size. The series blew the picture of plasma TVs out of the water, as well as any other LED/LCD screens.

What many reviewers did not like was the curved screen. However, the TV itself is razor thin. Most of the TV measures just a quarter inch thick, but the center of the back bulges out to 1 1/2 inches thick, to house the speakers and other hardware. The curve itself is not drastic, but it is obvious, especially when viewed from an angle. The stand is curved, too, and adds to the beauty of the design. The remote is small and fits well in the hand. It has a few main buttons and a scroll wheel that works quite well.

Pros:

  • Best picture of 2014

  • Excellent black levels and bright whites

  • Very thin

  • Accurate color

  • Weighs only 30 pounds

  • OLED TV

  • Cursor remote

Cons:

  • Pricey

  • The video processing is lacking

  • Color accuracy could be better

  • Curved screen

The bottom line is this TV is one of the best available. Its picture quality surpasses all plasma TVs, and it is likely to sport the best picture, compared to even the newest TVs. Though the screen is curved, many people can look past it when considering the sheer picture quality.
