An LG Television to Die For

As we talk about new television models coming out in 2015, we simply cannot overlook one TV in particular -- LG’s 98-inch 8K model. That’s right -- we said 98 inches, and we said 8K, not 4K. This TV is certainly not for the faint-of-heart, and its TV remote control does a great job of accessing its features. This is a television for die-hard viewers who want a true theater experience in the comfort of their home.

  • One of the best features of this TV is its amazing display. This is thanks to the 8K technology, which has 4 times the resolution of today’s 4K TVs -- and an astonishing 16 times the resolution of popular 1080p TVs. All of this resolution means you will experience an eye-popping, lifelike display.

  • Another fabulous feature of this TV is its sheer size. With 98 inches of viewing pleasure, you can watch all of your favorite movies, and feel as if you are in a theater. This is the kind of TV that needs a dedicated room, the kind of TV that practically demands a large audience simply to gush over its beauty.

  • The only downfall to this TV is that broadcasting isn’t ready for 8K resolution yet. Heck, broadcasting is still trying to catch up to 4K technology. However, technology is always improving, and it is probably safe to say that 8K resolution as a common feature is in our future. We just have to give broadcasters a chance to catch up with TV manufacturers.

The Vizio E480i-B2 -- Smaller Price Tag with Great Quality

If your new TV budget isn’t quite as large as you hoped, 2014 still offered some great TVs for less than $500, including the Vizio E480i-B2. • This is an LED television that features local dimming. The improved LED technology allows this TV to give you a vibrant picture with distinct blacks, whites, and colors, and clear definition. • This TV also has some of the most essential features, including HDMI and USB ports, as well as a good assortment of applications, such as Hulu Plus, YouTube, EBay, and Twitter.

Introducing the JVC DM85UXR

JVC's new offering for 2015 is the DM85UXR. This HDTV is massive, at 85 inches, and it has an equally massive price tag at an estimated $7999.00. There's no word of what its TV remote control is like, yet, but it's likely pretty decent, considering the price tag alone of this TV. This TV offers 4K resolution and more dimming zones than its previous models. The dimming zones total 64, with the 65-inch option having a mere 32. In theory, this means this JVC model should offer much more contrast.

Aside from the 4K resolution, this TV offers a lot of extras. JVC claims that it offers a topped-out 240HZ refresh rate, all thanks to their CrystalMotion Pro motion compensation engine. In addition to the excellent refresh rate, JVC includes a 4K upscaling engine with this build. As far as other features go, the DM85UXR comes with 5 HDMI ports. Four of the ports are compatible with the next advance in HDMI technology, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. This means this HDTV will work with the new 4K Blu-rays and players that should eventually enter the market in the coming years.

Packaged with the DM85UXR is the Roku Streaming Stick, which offers 1,500 plus channels. The other two extras are a QWERTY remote and Wi-Fi, both of which are generally common in higher-end TVs. The available images of this TV show it with a barely-there bezel and a two-piece chrome stand. Once the TV is released, we'll be able to provide more details on whether or not you should take the plunge.

4K TV Spotlight: Panasonic AX802

The Panasonic AX802 is a 4K TV that offers impressive features and a handy touchpad Bluetooth TV remote control. You've probably seen how little of a difference the 4K resolution makes on most TVs; however, this is not the case here. The 50 inch model offers up an impressive picture with deep blacks and a very wide color range. It even offers an info bar that stays on standby until someone enters the room and triggers its sensor. It should be noted that this TV is very heavy.

The TV sits atop a counterweight stand that is slightly behind the massive screen. It makes the screen appear to float above the stand, which is a nice touch. The metallic edge on the frame is also a nice element to the design of this attractive TV. The Smart TV suite is one of the best available and offers many streaming services. Unfortunately, the Netflix 4K service is not yet compatible with this TV. The remote is a small touchpad, which users will either love or hate.

Pros:

  • Excellent Smart TV suite

  • Great picture quality

  • Good looking design

  • Deep black levels

  • Excellent color range

Cons:

  • Netflix 4K is not compatible

  • Some users found remote awkward

  • Edge lighting is uneven

Bottom Line:

This TV is an excellent example of a 4K set that delivers. This is one of the better Panasonic TVs they have produced since they stopped making plasma TVs. It is an upgrade, and a much better 4K TV overall, compared to the previous year's WT600 model.

The LG LA6200 Series: Budget Large HDTV with Performance Problems

Armed with the standard LG TV remote control, the LA6200 series is a large, budget-friendly TV with a few performance issues. The picture quality is the not greatest, and it makes this TV not such a great value, especially with its $1,000 price tag. The smart TV suite is one of the best qualities of this HDTV. Consumers can customize it, which is something that all TVs do not offer.

Aside of the picture issues, this TV looks smart and sophisticated. It comes with a thin, dark bezel and has a wide profile due to its direct-lit LED screen. The stand makes the TV look as if it is floating, and it swivels -- an extra feature that many HDTVs do not offer. Many consumers prefer the motion control remote that LG offers, but this TV does not come with it. Instead, it comes with the standard LG remote, which is a good remote, but it has few features. Though the remote works well, it does not work well with the Smart TV menu, which takes many clicks to get to many apps and features.

Pros:

  • Great looking design

  • Smart TV suite

  • Accurate color

  • 3D compatible with 4 pairs of glasses

Cons:

  • Poor picture quality

  • Not as good video processing

  • Poor 3D image

  • Smart interface not easily navigable

  • Poor bright-room image

Bottom Line:

This HDTV is somewhat of a budget model, compared to many of the big-ticket TVs that are out in the market. Its features are okay, but there are many other TVs that are a much better value. Much of the competition has a better picture and better features for around the same price or less.

A Review of the Midrange Samsung UNF6400 Series

The Samsung UNF6400 series LED LCD TV is a step up from the UNF6300 series. It offers very similar features and picture quality. However, a huge difference from the two is the TV remote control. For almost $1,000 more, at $3,299, you get Samsung's Smart Touch Remote Control. This handy little clicker has a touch pad and voice search. It does have very few buttons, which means that you have to use an on-screen remote for many features. This makes it difficult to do simple things such as play, pause, or fast forward through Netflix.

The picture quality of this HDTV is almost the same as the 6300, but it offers more features. It also has the same design as the previous model. This might lead you to wonder why a new remote costs $1,000, but you really do get some extra features, such as Micro Dimming and active 3D technology. It comes with three sets of 3D glasses, and the technology is compatible with many 3rd-party brands. The Smart TV suite is one of the best features of the HDTV, which looks nice and is easy to navigate.

Pros:

  • Good mix of value and features

  • Accurate color

  • Good video processing

  • Great sound quality

  • Touch pad remote works well

  • Excellent Smart TV suite

  • Active 3D technology and 3 sets of glasses

Cons:

  • Black levels too light

  • Problems with color desaturation

  • Color uniformity issues

  • Cheap stand

Bottom Line:

This LED LCD TV offers a decent value, but the UNF6300 offers the better value at almost $1,000 less. Some of the new features of this HDTV make the picture quality worse, which is not a good thing.

About LG PH6700 Series

LG's PH6700 series is a high-tech midrange plasma HDTV with a rather strange TV remote control. Overall, the HDTV offers a decent value. It has a large screen for the price and some extra features that make the $1,000 price worth it. However, for a plasma HDTV, the picture quality is not on par with other similar TVs. This can present a problem, but, for the low price, it is not a huge issue. Still, the large feature set does make up for this.

The TV features a very thin bezel and a sunken-in appearance, like that of a picture frame. The finish is a black brushed plastic, but it looks cheap versus premium, like their other TVs. The stand is also not much to look at, but the fact that it swivels makes up for this. However, the remote is where the most changes were made. It is a small wand, but it really looks like a large lollipop. It is a "smart" remote, which means that it has pointing and scrolling capabilities, along with an on-screen remote. This may or may not irritate users as they try to access the menu, which requires the on-screen remote.

Pros:

  • Smart TV suite

  • Active 3D technology

  • Built-in Wi-Fi

  • De-judder processing

  • Great shadow detail

  • Great color performance

  • Excellent audio

  • Motion remote is fun to use

  • Cable box control

  • Voice control remote

  • Excellent picture settings

Cons:

  • Poor black levels

  • Poor bright room performance

  • No 3D glasses

Bottom line:

This is an excellent larger-screen TV. If you need a mid-range HDTV, this is a good option as long as you don't plan to use it in a bright room or one where the sun shines in at all times.

The Sharp LC-UQ17U: Are the Extra Features Worth It?

The Sharp LC-UQ17U is an advanced TV with many features and an almost retro TV remote control. The TV itself has 1080p resolution, but its extra features are supposed to make the picture look closer to 4K quality. It has a four-color screen and some extra technology that should make the picture look better, but this is hardly the truth.

The top and bottom bezel of this TV are silver, while the sides are black, which looks slick. However, the stand looks strange compared to the rest of the TV design. The TV does wall mount, which is an option to consider, as it looks better that way. The remote design is the same one Sharp has used for the previous four years. It is a long remote that is comfortable and has just the right amount of buttons, without being overwhelming.

Pros:

  • Good picture quality

  • Deep black levels

  • Excellent shadow detail

  • Looks good when wall mounted

  • Good remote design, although it’s old

  • Menu system makes sense

  • Active 3D and comes with glasses

  • Bluetooth connectivity

Cons:

  • Very high price tag for native 1080p resolution

  • Revelation engine adds artifacts

  • Color artifacts

  • Stand looks awkward

  • Smart TV interface is sluggish

  • Picture not so nice compared to the price

The bottom line is that the price is not worth it for the picture quality or the lack of 4K resolution. The TV performs just as well as TVs that are half the price with similar features. This means that instead of spending $2,000, you can spend under $1,000 for the same, if not better, features.

Introducing the Sharp LE650

The LE650 is an updated version of 2013’s LE640, and it even has the same TV remote control. Sharp changed the design of the TV drastically to allow for a slimmer bezel. This forced the speakers to be moved to face the rear. Overall, the TV looks good, and it offers a good picture and value for the features. It features Sharp’s Smart TV suite, which is easy to navigate and has a decent amount of apps. The TV is an entry-level model, but it does offer a decent set of features and settings.

The TV comes with a thin, black bezel. Its stand is also black, but it sits far down on it and appears to be squatting over it. The remote is the same as the 2012 model, with a few hot button additions. You can now access a few apps from the remote, using the programmable hot buttons. However, the remote still looks and feels the same as before. The remote does function well, but it is larger than most that come with newer model TVs.

Pros:

  • Better picture quality than comparable models

  • Good black levels

  • Accurate color

  • Good bright-room picture

  • Smart TV

  • Multiple picture settings

Cons:

  • Poor sound quality

  • Pricey

Bottom line, this TV is a good overall value compared to other similar devices. Its sound quality is subpar, but Sharp sacrificed it when they redesigned the bezel. In addition, they fixed the color uniformity issues that the previous model had. The TV might just be a basic model that lacks features such as 3D, but that does not make it less of a TV.

Stream TV's Ultra-D

Imagine having a 3D television that does not need 3D glasses to display the image on it. Stream has done just that with a filter that fits over an HDTV. In the future, they plan to create a TV set that does just this, without the filter. Using the TV remote control, you could flip through cable channels and see everything in 3D.

As it stands, in the fall of 2014, the Ultra-D TVs are still just a prototype. However, Stream is working with TCL, BOE, Huawei, Toshiba, and Hisense to produce these TVs for the end of 2014 and Q1 of 2015. Each TV produced will have 4K resolution with 8 million pixels when viewing 2D content. Unfortunately, most streaming services do not offer 4K services yet, but Netflix is supposed to roll their service out in Q4 of 2014.

The 3D technology included within the new TVs will not require glasses. The 3D technology works more like a hologram than the current 3D technology. The new screens deflect the light from individual pixels, projecting them one meter in front of the screen. This makes it appear as if the image has real depth. This 3D technology looks more real and loses the cumbersome glasses.

Soon, another service available from Stream will be the seeQube box. It decodes streaming services, giving the ability to watch compressed 4K TV streams. It does this with the help of a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor and an Adreno 330 GPU. With these specifications, it can stream 4K over the same bandwidth as regular HD streaming. In addition, Stream expects to adapt the technology for new tablet and phone screens for 3D service.

Amazon Fire TV

Recently, Amazon made waves when they introduced their Fire TV streaming device to compete with Roku and Apple TV. Its box is similar in size to the Roku box and Apple TV, and it has a similar TV remote control. Its remote is simple to use, as is the interface, which makes this device highly competitive.

With the Amazon Fire TV, you have the ability to use streaming services from most apps other than Amazon Prime. However, Amazon services are preferred, and some major apps are missing from the service, such as Spotify and HBO Go. The app lineup for the Fire TV is impressive, but compared to other streaming devices, it does not offer as much.

Pros:

  • Kid-friendly platform

  • Simple setup

  • Easy to use remote

  • Large amount of playable games

  • Small profile box

  • Very accurate voice search

Cons:

  • Expensive price tag

  • Have to purchase a separate game controller

  • Voice search limited to Amazon services

  • Requires a Prime subscription

  • Power adapter takes up a lot of space

Overall, if you have an Amazon Prime account, having the Amazon TV is worth it, especially if you play a lot of games. With the Amazon TV, you can access many games from Amazon Prime, including Minecraft and The Walking Dead. However, if you are just a casual streaming TV user, it would be a better choice to purchase a less expensive streaming TV device. Even with it, you can still access streaming from Amazon Prime Instant.

Understanding Smart TV Technology

When you are in the market for a new TV, your only requirement may simply be that it has a good TV remote control. That’s a normal request from the average person. However, today's TVs have a lot more to offer than just a great remote. There are different technologies being introduced every day -- and one of those technologies is the Smart TV.

So, what is a Smart TV? In simple terms, it is a TV that can connect to the internet. Now, a Smart TV is not the kind of television that requires an HDMI cable to connect it to your laptop. A Smart TV has its own way of connecting to the internet. Some of these televisions have built-in WIFI functionality. Others require that you connect your TV directly to your router through an Ethernet port.

Once connected to the internet, you will find a wide range of options available. You can surf the web, check Facebook, watch some YouTube clips, and much more. Different manufacturers offer different features for their Smart TVs, and some are better than others. One thing that you are sure to find is the ability to stream videos, such as those offered by Netflix and other video-on-demand services.

Smart TV prices range from low to high. If internet access or streaming movies is important to you, then you may want to find a Smart TV to fit your needs -- and if its great remote ever fails, Replacement Remotes is here to help.

The Samsung PNF8500 Series Delivers an Amazing Picture

Finding an awesome TV and a matching TV remote control may seem like an impossible challenge, especially with so many available models on the market. However, the Samsung PNF8500 series takes the guesswork out of the process. This television series delivers exactly what you would expect in the $2400 to $3100 price range.

This is an active 3-D, plasma television that offers a superb picture with a wonderful bright-room image. The details are in the shadows -- literally! This TV series offers deep blacks and shadow detail that help create a beautiful image. The colors are accurate and uniform, giving you a smooth, crisp image that pops with details.

This TV series has an amazing remote that is packed with tons of features. It also comes equipped with 4 pairs of 3-D glasses. You can even operate this TV series by motion and voice commands! Samsung didn't hold anything back when creating this series, as it offers the latest in Smart TV technology. Finally, the design is slim and sleek, making it a perfect fit for any interior design.

The biggest flaws with this TV series are the price and the power consumption. If you like living "green," you may want to steer clear of this TV series -- it consumes a lot more power than comparable LCD TVs. The price is also on the steep side, which means it is not a good fit for every budget.

Overall, this plasma TV series delivers more than what you might expect in terms of picture quality and features -- but you can also expect to pay for these features and quality.

Contact us today at Replacement Remotes to order a new remote for your Samsung TV.

The Curious Curved TV: Sony KDL-S990A

This LED-based LCD HDTV is one of the first HDTVs with a curved screen. Its release price was $4,000, which is a lot to pay for a TV. Its TV remote control is very long, with few buttons. The curve of the TV is very slight, but Sony states it is noticeable for the viewers near the center of the viewing angle. Due to this gentle, subtle curve, the HDTV must be placed on a wide stand. In addition, the TV itself is quite wide.

Instead of using OLED technology, Sony uses what it knows: LED technology. The resolution is 1080p, not 4K like other curved TVs. For such an HDTV, it offers a unique sound system, with eight speakers facing multiple directions. The surround sound is impressive, compared to many flat panel devices. The remote itself is nothing special. It offers the usual numbered buttons and a central directional pad with buttons above you can program.

Pros:

  • Great sound system

  • Powerful video processing

  • Whole suite of Smart TV apps

  • Built in Wi-Fi

  • Great picture and color

  • Energy Star certified

  • Active 3D technology

Cons:

  • Expensive

  • Very large footprint

  • Very heavy at over 100 lbs.

Bottom Line:

This is a great curved HDTV, but very expensive. Within a year, curved HDTVs might drop in price and offer better or different options. If you can afford the TV and must have this technology now, go for it. Just expect better technology to follow. In the meantime, you will have a great functioning HDTV. If you do order this TV and ever need a replacement remote, contact us for quick delivery.

Newest Smart TV: The Sony KDL

Sony's newest Smart TVs come from the KDL series, which, along with their wedge shapes and two remotes, are a curiosity. An expensive one, at that. This new series of TVs are large and in charge with pricing upwards of $2,200 for a 55+ inch TV. However, even with the high price and strange design, Sony's got something right.

This TV series offers an amazing picture for the price point, and almost no issues with picture quality. It performs well in a bright room, an issue that many plasma and LCD TVs have. The sound quality also hits high marks. The TV is strange, as it is wedge shaped, with the top being much thinner than the bottom. When looking at it from the front, you can't tell. From the sides, the shape is blatantly different.

The TV remote is similar to other Sonys from last year. It offers a pleasing color array of buttons. All buttons were easy to press one-handed, and they were clearly marked. A new key was added allowing you to pull up thumbnails of videos and TV shows. The second remote is a touchpad clicker, which is optional.

Pros:

  • Great picture quality

  • Deep black levels and great bright-room image

  • Excellent video processing

  • Excellent sound

  • Great features within the Smart TV apps

Cons:

  • Expensive

  • Poor 3D quality

Bottom Line:

If you just aren't that into a 3D picture and have the money, this TV is worth it. The picture is better than most LCDs that are the same size.

Sony STR-DN840: The Best Low-Budget AV Receiver

With a remote that challenges most remotes for AV receivers and TVs, the Sony STR-DN840 offers a lot for less than $450. If you can look over how clunky this receiver is, you will see a great value with a great brand name. This device hits all marks when it comes to price, performance and features.

This AV receiver offers wireless features that some of the competitors just cannot match. It comes with standard built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and AirPlay. No other receivers offer all three of these abilities at this price. Use your smart phone in place of the remote to turn the device on and select inputs. More advanced features and settings still require the button-packed remote. It does sit nicely in the hand, but many of the additional buttons just are not needed. Remember, less is sometimes more.

Pros:

  • Built-in Wi-Fi

  • Many streaming options

  • Six HDMI inputs

  • Great value for the price

  • Three digital audio inputs

  • DLNA compliant, supporting streaming services

  • 7.2 channel receiver

Cons:

  • Remote is too busy with all the buttons and functions

  • No MHL inputs

  • Sound quality is not as good as others

  • Device is bulky

Bottom Line:

If you can get past the large, bulky box, this AV receiver is the best value you will find for the price. It offers every feature you could ask for and great wireless connectivity. Many features included are only available at price points over $600. This makes it a great buy from a great electronics manufacturer.

The Sharp LC-LE757U Series HDTVs

For a middle of the road HDTV, the Sharp LC-LE757U series LCD TVs offer a mixed bag of features along with a handy TV remote. For under $2,000 for a large HDTV, you really cannot expect a lot, especially with all of the new 4K TVs rolling out later this year and next. However, this TV does do a pretty good job and offers some great features, but there are also a few small drawbacks.

The series offers HDTVs in 60, 70 and 80 inches. The TV’s design is sleeker and nicer than most of Sharp’s other TVs. It is also a very thin TV, thinner than most others are. The TV remote is a thin wand that offers up many buttons. There are shortcut buttons for the Smart TV and Netflix, and three others that you can customize.

Pros:

  • Active 3D playback

  • Smart TV service

  • Extensive list of apps

  • Picture management settings

  • 4 HDMI ports

Cons:

  • Poor picture quality for the price

  • Inaccurate colors

  • Black levels too light

  • 3D picture quality is worse than most competitors

Bottom Line:

The TV offers a lot of great settings, but the picture quality is not reminiscent of the price you pay for it. Great settings are not everything, and this TV makes it abundantly clear. Watching TV on it is difficult due to all the ghosting, the blue tinge and less than perfect black levels. Many other competing HDTVs offer better performance at even lower price points than this model. Alternatively, since you are spending the money, go for a TV at a little higher price point to really enjoy the marriage of great picture quality and features.

Budget TV Reviews: TCL LE42FHDE5300

The TCL LE42FHDE5300 is one of the few 42 inch HDTVs that you will find for under $400. With this price point, you are making some sacrifices, including a sluggish TV remote, but you can easily replace it with a better one. However, don’t expect a lot of features packed into this TCL series TV.

This is one of the few inexpensive TVs that look the part of an expensive model. The panel is very thin, but widens at the bottom, where the down facing speakers are located. The glass base looks nice, but it does not swivel. The included remote is large, at 8 inches, and contains 37 buttons that are slow to respond. When changing settings and when navigating the menu, there is a very noticeable lag.

The picture quality is decent for a budget TV, but the contrast ratio is low. Color accuracy is also not that great, but expected. Otherwise, the TV offers sharp image detail and good viewing angles.

Pros:

  • Very budget friendly

  • Energy efficient

  • Good image detail for the price

  • Large TV for the price

  • Sharp 1080p picture

Cons:

  • Color accuracy not great

  • Remote is sluggish

  • Only two HDMI ports

  • Lack of features

Overall, you get a lot for little with this LCD TV. It is large for the price, at 42 inches, and offers a decent picture. It also looks nicer than many of the more expensive TVs. The lack of features and few HDMI ports is disappointing, but if you need an extra no-frills TV, this one makes a good choice.

When more does not Equal Better: The Toshiba L9300U Series

When you spend over $2,500, you should expect more from a TV than just a fancy TV remote control. Sadly, with the Toshiba L9300U series, you don’t get much more than that. This TV is one of the first generation of the 4K, or Ultra HD TVs. These TVs are supposed to have the best and most advanced picture, but the first generation have simply performed poorly so far.

The big allure of the 4K series is the large amount of pixels that these TVs have. The pixels alone do not make picture quality better if the other features are poor or absent. Also, the extra resolution is not noticed at normal seating range, which begs the question: why buy it?

Aside from the disappointing nature of the TV, the remote is disappointing, too. The central action button emits an audible clicking sound when pressed. This is annoying and cannot be turned off. It also has a lot of buttons, almost too many. It is missing important abilities, such as the ability to control aspect ratio and backlighting.

Pros:

  • The color is very accurate.

  • 3D resolution looks great.

  • Offers a wireless keyboard for use with PC gaming.

  • Connectivity is excellent.

Cons:

  • The TV is very expensive and a poor value.

  • The black levels are very poor.

  • It looks bad in a bright room.

  • 4K resolution does not look any different than 1080p.

  • Smart TV menu is not very good.

This TV is just not recommended. The 4K technology is too new to pay so much for a TV that is so disappointing. Waiting a few months will bring more 4K options to the table that will be more worth it for the high price.

The Samsung Class LED 8000 Series Reviewed

The Samsung Class LED 8000 series is a LED LCD TV with a high price tag and a lot to offer. The series is offered in multiple sizes, from 46 inches all the way to 75 inches. The picture quality on this TV is rated excellent compared to similar models, and it comes equipped with a unique TV remote.

The colors are deep and very accurate. This is especially true for the blacks, something which many TVs fall short on. It is a 3D model, coming with the 3D setup and 4 pairs of glasses. It also offers voice and motion command, something that many TVs cannot top.

The design is extremely minimalistic and ultrathin. The frame is almost hairline, making it look like a huge screen. It is truly one of the nicest looking TVs on the market in its price point. The TV does not swivel on its curved stand, but the stand itself is practically a masterpiece.

The optional Samsung smart remote is tiny, close to the size of an iPhone. It only has a few buttons located above and below the silver pad. The pad is a touchpad that works extremely well using Bluetooth technology. The responsiveness is so good that you will rarely find yourself missing the different menus.

The remote that is provided with the Samsung TV is a standard remote with many buttons. The model of the Class LED 8000 series remote is AA59-00784C.

In many circles, Samsung is known for top quality TVs, but many reviewers do not feel the same way. Many prior series offered subpar picture quality for the price. In the past, the main issue for reviewers was the picture quality. However, this model offers one of the best pictures in a non-4K TV, but you will pay for it.
